National Doughnut Day (and a Finisher)

This is a real thing, people. One of my favorite days. I innocently asked our work admin if there was a thing planned for work for this epic made-up holiday, because if there wasn’t, then I was going to buy a dozen for my little pod of worker bees. Could I help it if I planted an idea in our awesome admin team’s heads and then this happened: Dozens and dozens of doughnuts from Frost:

WP_20150605_001I’m not going to lie. It was ridiculous, and I probably tasted at least 6 different ones. And I probably would have been perfectly content with one. THE one, my favorite doughnut of all time that I just don’t get very often because Top Pot* where I usualy go doesn’t make them.

I’m talking about the cruller. The French Cruller.WP_20150605_002

I thought an extra cup of coffee would be in order to enjoy the cruller, this one stuffed with unnecessary frosting, but still. Incredible:

(Memo to self, second cup of coffee is NOT a good idea)

Oh, and, sometime this month, this happened. I was heading to the very healthy and good-for-you Evolution Fresh with my pal, let’s call her “Sam”, when I bumped into my work spouse in the elevator. “I’m going to the food trucks,” said the work spouse. I was torn. “Oh go, already,” said Sam. So I did. And accidently ordered a bag of beignets.

WP_20150610_002That won’t happen again! I said to myself. Except it did, when work spouse and I went back to the food trucks a week or so later. Beignets are from Where Ya At, Matt?

*(And, sorry Top Pot for not going to your establishment on this day of all days, but you see me so very often on all the other days, and besides it’s very likely you didn’t even know I wasn’t there. I did wear your shirt in honor of the day, okay?)

Hearty paleo breakfast (and one not so much)

Some things just scream paleo, don’t they. This makes up for the donut run I made with my work spouse earlier this week. And the $1 milkshake I just had to try at the office cafeteria.

Porto-Eggo-Squasho

Portobello mushroom, pan-fried using coconut oil, seasoned with coconut aminos and balsalmic vinegar. On top of that, a fried egg. On top of that, some leftover spaghetti squash seasoned with sea salt and pepper, and a little Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning.

Seriously, wouldn’t you rather …

Can’t these both be breakfast of champions?

run 4.29

Time: 8:30
Where: Green Lake
Workout: 5 K
Notes and observations: First weekend since I started training seriously that I did not do the prescribed workout. I skipped Saturday and ran a 5K race on Sunday (the top pot 5k doughnut dash). My time: 27:24. My pace: 8:50. I’m sure I could have been faster but I started off near the back of the pack and spent the first mile bobbing and weaving my way towards a comfortable spot. There were people running this race, dressed as doughnuts. I literally chased a maple bar the entire 5K. And the maple bar beat me!

Oh yeah, and we all got a real doughnut at the end. Well, some runners had theirs before the race started, but that’s no way to run a race! Glazed. mmmm ….

Music: Beat the Bridge playlist. It’s a good one!

Run 2.28

Time: lunch, noonish
Where: Bellevue, south on Bellevue way and back
Workout: 5 miles steady state though in reality it was probably in the 4.75 range
Notes and observations: food is fuel. Yesterday I didn’t eat well in the morning and I paid for it when I finally got around to eating lunch. Today I had myusual, egg/egg white scramble with cottage cheese, and was good to go. String cheese around 10 and I made it through a lunchtime run okay. The difference an egg or two can make.
Now the confession. By the time I got back from running, answered emails and all that it was 2pm, I.e. Closing time at the cafeteria. So this is what I scrounged up at the 15th floor office cafe …

lunch of champions
Yes, that is an apple fritter you see before you. I’m ending Donut-free February with on a low note.

Music: Foo + Killers. So predictable, I am…
